ROLLER SKI & CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING TRAIL

Practise and enjoy Nordic sports all year round!

The cross-country ski trail and roller ski track in the Villach Alpine Arena not only offers the opportunity to practise Nordic sports in winter, but is also a highlight for professional and amateur athletes in summer.

Located at the entrance to the Dobratsch Nature Park, the cross-country ski trail can be varied in length and elevation profile as desired and, thanks to its different levels of difficulty, offers athletes the perfect endurance training. As the cross-country ski trail and roller ski track pass directly by the ski jump facility used by Olympic and world champions, the Villach Alpine Arena is the premier location for Nordic athletes to train – both in winter and summer. Amateur athletes, beginners and children are welcome to discover the fascination of movement on ‘rollers’ and cross-country skis.

  2. Signalling, running direction and running technique
Markings and signals (signposts) must be observed. On the cross-country ski trail and the asphalt track, you must run in the indicated direction.
  3. Choice of track and slope
On double and multiple tracks, you must run in the right-hand track. Cross-country skiers in groups must run one behind the other in the right-hand track. When using the free technique, you must run on the right-hand side of the slope.
  4. Overtaking
Overtaking is permitted on the right or left, depending on the space available. The runner in front does not need to move out of the way. However, they should move out of the way if they can do so safely.
  5. Oncoming traffic
When encountering other runners, everyone must move to the right. The runner who is leaving has right of way.
  6. Pole positioning
When overtaking, being overtaken and when encountering other skiers, poles should be kept close to the body.
  7. Adjusting speed to conditions
Every runner must adjust their speed and behaviour to their ability, the terrain conditions, traffic density and visibility, especially on downhill sections. They must maintain a sufficient safety distance from the runner in front. If necessary, they must throw themselves to the ground to prevent a collision.
  8. Keeping the trails and slopes clear
Anyone who stops must step off the trail/asphalt slope. A skier who has fallen must clear the trail/asphalt slope as quickly as possible.
  9. Assistance
In the event of an accident, everyone is obliged to provide assistance.
  10. Obligation to provide identification
In the event of an accident, everyone, whether a witness or a party involved, whether responsible or not, must provide their personal details.
